Meet More Artists from Autumn Impressions!

Robert Gideon, Debbi Green, and Janet Scholl are three very talented artists that are featured in our current art exhibit, Autumn Impressions. We are so excited to give you a little knowledge about these artists in this blog post. This exhibit is open until October 5th. Stop by and check it out before its too late!

Meet Robert Gideon:

Originally from the east coast, Robert Gideon has called Los Angeles home for the past 10 years. An engineer by training, he brings a careful and measured eye to his photographic work, tempered by a deep understanding of the technology being used and its limitations. Robert is largely self-taught and first learned the art of photography using his dad’s Exakta Varex IIa back in the 1980’s, shooting black and white negatives and developing them in his high school dark room. He is an award-winning photographer whose work has been on display in group shows in the SoCal area as well as in galleries and community art spaces across the United States.

"I was raised on the east coast where Autumn is distinctive. It is a time when the air is crisp and the sky is often clear. Later in the season, when the leaves are all gone, the trees at night are eerie and stark black against the sky at night. In my photographic work I am most often drawn to black and white dramatic expressions of the world around me. Autumn in the northeast is a time when things are changing rapidly and there is a lot going on beneath the surface. I feel that my work resonates strongly with these phenomena. In many ways the season of my art is Autumn, and always has been."

Meet Debbi Green:

A vast variety of creative and professional experiences has shaped the artistic work of Los Angeles native, Debbi Green. Her background is as varied as each endeavor she took but with an artistic flair. From designing junior sportswear to textile designer; a costumer in the film industry to the creator of a hand painted children’s furniture line. All duties that developed her sense of design, space, color and texture. The decision to become a full time artist was an easy one. A promise from her mentors, she would go on to show in over 150 exhibitions, hang and sell in prestigious galleries and boutiques in the US and overseas.

"My art is the driving force that keeps me creating and cultivate the beauty that
surrounds me. Painting becomes the meditation and the energy that makes me want dance with delight and move the paintbrush accordingly. As a native Californian, I have a vast majority of landscapes to choose from. Once I finally decide on which mountain or ocean or flowering rose, I then get to paint the
colors I actually see. From the deep purple in the shade of the hillside or perhaps the yellow and pink in the clouds is what inspires me on a daily basics."

“Excellence, beauty and humor is what I aspire to be in my paintings and in my life.”

Meet Janet Scholl:

What to do when your last child leaves for college? That is the question Janet Scholl was asking herself 20 + years ago. Janet Scholl grew up in Thousand Oaks and currently resides in Westlake Village. She started her art journey at Mission Renaissance which starts with basic drawing techniques and carries you through to painting with oil. After Mission Renaissance, she studied with a local artist. Janet enjoys painting landscapes and the outdoors but also loves the challenges of portrait painting.

"I enjoy getting lost in the creation of making a painting. Taking a blank canvas
and slowly but surely seeing the painting come alive. Swirling and combining the individual colors to create a color which is just right for the subject. I love putting the final details… the very light, the super dark , the hard line to make the painting come alive. Such a feeling of accomplishment when you stand back and see what you just created by your very own hand and imagination. That’s why painting is my
passion! Getting lost in your creation."
