Meet Two Artists in Our Current Exhibit: Katie & Gordo!
Katie Desinova and Gordo Durich are two very talented artists that are featured in our current art exhibit, Ooh La La Paris. This exhibit is timed perfectly for the Paris Olympics which kicked off today! We are so excited to give you a little knowledge about Katie and Gordo in this blog post.
Meet Katie Denisova:
"I begin my paintings intuitively, making random marks or pouring paint on a canvas. As movement and emotions emerge, I follow the paint’s lead, allowing each canvas to come alive on its own.
I never rush, letting each painting show itself to me. In this piece, poured paint started to dry and flowers appeared. A vision of lying in a wildflower field early the morning was revealed. Eventually the painting transformed into exactly my vision."
"Like most people, when I think of Paris, what comes to mind first is romance, elegance, couture and French cuisine. But when I look beyond those surface traits, I can truly relate with French culture.
Art De Vivre, the French philosophy of life, emphasizes a healthy balanced existence and enjoying the present moment. These ideals have a strong influence on how I live and how I paint.
Why is it so important to me, you ask? My life was centered around taking care of others, both at home and in my career as an operating room nurse. Decades of sacrificing myself to provide for others took its toll on my mental health and culminated in a massive burnout. I had to take time off to reestablish my priorities and to learn to take care of myself, to be present in the moment, and to find joy in the mundane.
Art allows me to be completely absorbed in the moment and encourages me to embrace whatever life offers, good and bad. My art is vibrant, romantic, and feminine. It reflects my joy of living and I hope that it can invoke the same passion for life in the people viewing my art. "

Meet Gordo Durich:
"My work is contemporary and eclectic influenced by my background in graphic design. Lettering, creating art from found objects, print media and the technique of collage, I love. Whimsical, I love playful interpretations of the world around me and also meaningful expressions of my loves of music and pop culture.
Favorite colors of cobalt blue and corn yellow are often featured in my mixed media, painting and pen and ink."
"Here’s a picture of moi touching up a work “Pierre NY,” a mixed media — paper and acrylic paint. My “studio” is our dining room. I was going to frame this work, made of paper I found at a New York bakery (L’Ami Pierre) but was suggested by framer friend, Tim to paint the sides of the canvas instead. It was a brilliant idea!"
"The theme of “Paree” - and France - flavors my art in various ways. From the allure of the iconic “Tour Eiffel”, the graphic nature of the Tri-Color blue, white and red French flag and the city lights, which glimmer with a velvety glow. The elongated triangular Tower and the monumental Arch de Triomphe inspire. The romantic language and European style inform my work, with a musical tone."
